In their league section of the tournament Dungannon played hosts Ophir, Carrick, Y.M.C.A., Holywood and Armoy
In the first game Dungannon defeated YMCA 33 - 14 with tries from Jeremy Baird, Stuart McKenzie (2), Chris Henderson and Mark Riddell. Chris Henderson converted two with Gareth McGonigle and Stuart McKenzie converting one each.
Next came a close game against Ophir. Thanks to self converted tries by Mark Henderson, Mark Riddell and Gareth McGonigle Gannon shaded a 21 -17 win.
In a physical game Dungannon ran in three self converted tries by Mark Riddell, Chris Henderson and Mark McFarland to win 21-0 against Armoy.
A typically hard game against Carrick was won by 14-12 thanks to a self converted try from Chris Henderson and a try by Mark McFarland.
In the last pool game against a Fijian inspired Holywood Gannon went down 14-12. Chris Henderson converted his try and Mark McFarland again running in a score.
Gannon had qualified for the semis but only had seven players left so it came as no surprise that they went down to the eventual winners Academy who have won the competition in four of the last five seasons. Academy defeated Queen’s 21-15 in the final.
Again a great effort by the players, with a full squad of ten they could have progressed further.
Team: Chris Henderson, Stuart McKenzie, Mark McFarland, Mark Riddell, Chris O'Brien, Gareth McGonigle, Jeremy Baird and Gareth Weir.
